Australian National Maritime Museum NAIDOC 2017 | Raj Suri Australia

9 July 2017, Sydney, Australia.

NAIDOC (National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee) Week is an Australian observance lasting from the first Sunday in July until the following Sunday. NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The Australian National Maritime Museum which has dedicated Indigenous programs and initiatives.
I had an opportunity to learn about the NAIDOC Week 2017 which runs from 2 – 9 July, 2017.
Kevin Sumption is the Director of the Australian National Maritime Museum who spoke on the 2017 theme “Our Languages Matter” at the Naidoc 2017. I interviewed Donna Carstens, manager of Indigenous Programs at the Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney. It was a great insight on the diverse culture of Aboriginal people and culture of Australia.
I was unaware that there were hundreds on languages spoken by the Aboriginal Australians..”Our Languages Matter” is a great national initiative to save and recover the languages. The spiritual connection between the nature and people is another fascinating element which resonated with me.
There is a fascinating permanent gallery in the museum called ‘Eora First People ‘ dedicated to the Australian Indigenous culture & history. Must see for anyone who comes to Sydney, especially many international visitors, including Indian and Chinese tourists, who visit the adjoining popular Darling Harbour.
