Featherdale – Sydney’s Wildlife Treasure

Featherdale – Sydney’s Wildlife Treasure

Hi I am Raj Suri! On a beautiful mid afternoon August afternoon day, very excited to be here at the Featherdale Wildlife Park which is under 40 minutes drive in Sydney’s West.
We got a great welcome and VIP tour with the resident animal expert, Director of Life Sciences, Zookeeper Chad Staples.

Chad has been at the Park for over 20 years now! Straight after high school!! He is very passionate about what he does! I asked Chad what is different about Featherdale Wildlife Park compared to say Sydney’s other tourist attractions like the Taronga Zoo or even the Wild Life Sydney in Darling Harbour?

With over 1,800 mammals, birds and reptiles, I am told it is the most comprehensive collection of Australian native species anywhere in Australia! You want a cuddle, you can meet a Koala, or feed the Kangaroos and Wallabies, admire the size of enormous Saltwater Crocodile “Ngukkur” and loads more! The Platypus – it is an endangered species, but very well looked after here at Featherdale. And the Dingo – the Australian native dog!

Raj-Suri-FeatherdaleFeatherdale has a commitment to animal and environmental education. The Wildlife Education Program is well established and very successful. The “Learning Burrow” is an open-air amphitheatre with seating for up to 90 students. The “Wildlife Wanderer” is Featherdale’s mobile education program. There are Lessons which are interactive experiences that reflect the school curriculum in Australia. What a great way to get young involved with animal welfare early in life!

Through innovation Featherdale has developed into one of Australia’s finest tourist attractions, not only in Greater Western Sydney, but the whole of New South Wales and Australia.
